Lottery Boost for Mareel

HSE takes up the offer to visit Shetland

Following discussions between HSE representatives and Alistair Carmichael MP the HSE confirmed today that they would now make the trip to Shetland to review the inclusion of the North Ness Fuel Depot in their high risk site classification. In a further development the HSE has also confirmed that only one alteration is required to one tank on the North Ness site to automatically remove the tank from the list, and in doing so opening up the opportunity for development within the area affected by their guidance. All that is required is an overflow device to be attached to the petrol tank and work is now underway to cost this work and open up negotiations with the operators of the site.

Hides and Habitats Exhibition

One of the most beautiful exhibitions ever to be seen in Shetland is about to open at Shetland Arts’ Bonhoga Gallery. Entitled Hides & Habitats, by Fife based artist Kyra Clegg, it is an ongoing installation of sculptures and wall based work whose initial inspiration was the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s book ‘The Poetics of Space’.

Highland writer shortlisted for the Sundial Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year Awards
