Channel 4's IDEASFACTORY is launching a search to find ten young people who
will work with music industry professionals to produce a compilation CD and
promote emerging bands from the Highlands and Islands.
IDEASFACTORY: MAKE TRACKS is a new creative career development
initiative which will be launched at the goNORTH festival in Aberdeen on
Wednesday 9th June. It is aimed at 16 to 34-year-olds in the Highlands &
Islands who want to make a career in the music industry.
Working with top names from the music industry, IDEASFACTORY: MAKE
TRACKS will provide the ten finalists with a valuable and comprehensive insight
into careers in music production, management, and promotion.
Over the next eight weeks, five music management themed workshops will be
staged across the Highlands and Islands to get people up and running on the
IDEASFACTORY: MAKE TRACKS project.
Supported by professional
mentors from the music industry during a series of masterclasses, the ten
selected trainees will create and work for a record label over a three-month
period from August to October 2004. Throughout the project, they will learn from
experts, pick up tips of the trade, make valuable contacts, and undertake work
placements to kick-start their
careers.
For those not chosen as
one of the final ten, the area-wide music management workshops offer everyone
involved the chance to find out more about the business of music production and
promotion, make contacts with industry experts and learn new
skills.
Lucy Conway, Highlands & Islands Co-ordinator for
IDEASFACTORY Scotland
said: "This is about providing real life opportunities
for people with an interest in the music industry.
"It is not
essential to attend a workshop to become one of the ten - anyone can get
involved by registering on our website, writing a 200 word piece on a band they
would most like to work with, how they could make them perform or sound better,
and how they would promote them."
The closing date for entries is
1st August 2004.
The IDEASFACTORY: MAKE TRACKS project will be
produced by goEVENTS and is supported by Highlands & Islands Enterprise as
part of its business development programme for the Creative
Industries.
