Fochaber's Just Art gallery has a new exhibition for June featuring framed
works by Francis Boag, Glass by Joan Holdsworth, Ceramics by Patricia Shone,
Deborah Prosser and Helen Kemp from 20 June to 18 July.
It is said that paintings by Francis Boag have become an over familiar sight
with images of his work appearing on posters, prints and cards. But the same can
also be said of a large number of Scottish artists who are at the vanguard of
the continuing success of Scottish Art abroad.
However, the measure of an artist can only truly be judged by looking at an
original work. This opportunity will be afforded to visitors to Just Art in
Fochabers to view an exhibition of Francis's work that opens on Sunday 20th
June. Since concentrating solely on painting Francis has enjoyed critical and
commercial success and in recent times has had exhibitions in Ireland, France
and the United States as well as throughout the United Kingdom. The show
includes all new paintings that demonstrate how his work has developed over the
last twelve months.
The Applied Arts are not neglected in this exhibition either. Orkney glass
artist Joan Holdsworth presents a series of bowls and platters heavily
influenced by the sea. Skye potter Patricia Shone's bottles and bowls display a
masterly command of Raku techniques while Deborah Prosser's painted work draws
on a centuries old tradition of decorative ware. Completing the show are the
delicate figures of Kelso artist Helen Kemp. Since making the transition from
thrown ware to figures her ceramic pieces have become increasingly sought
after.
