Songwriters – time to get out your dusty notepad as
IDEASFACTORY has got an opportunity for budding lyricists.
IDEASFACTORY and The Arvon Foundation are pleased to announce
the New Lyric Award.
Judged by Kinks’ legend Ray Davies, the man who penned classics such You
Really Got Me, All Day and All of The Night, Lola and
Dedicated Follower of Fashion, here’s a chance to grab the attention of
industry bods.
What awaits the winner is the chance to choose one of Arvon Foundation
writing courses which run week long residential writing courses for writers of
all ages and abilities across all genres. Arvon will provide the winner with a
unique opportunity to spend a week living and working with other writers in the
beautiful surroundings of one of their centres in Devon, Shropshire, Yorkshire
or Inverness-shire.
The courses provide an inspirational space and dedicated time to practise the
art of writing. All food, accommodation and tuition whilst staying at the centre

Terms & Conditions
- The Competition is organised by, and on behalf of,
IDEASFACTORY and the Arvon Foundation. It is open to anyone,
except those working for the Arvon Foundation or
IDEASFACTORY.
- Competitors must be over sixteen years of age.
- The decision of the judge will be final and the organisers will not enter
into any correspondence about the results. The promoter reserves the right in
its absolute discretion, not to award any prize or prizes in the event that
there are insufficient entries or the entries are not considered by the judges
to be of a suitable standard.
- There will be a first prize will be a place on an Arvon course. There is
no cash alternative.
- All entries for the competition must arrive NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT ON
MONDAY 16 AUGUST 2004.
- The entries are to be submitted by email to editor@ideasfactory.com with New
Lyric Award in the subject box.
- Each entry must be song lyric only, of any length, written in the English
language.
- Each entry must be the original work of the author and not a copy nor a
substantial copy of any work and it must not have been previously published or
broadcast.
- The names of the winners will be posted on the
IDEASFACTORY website and the Arvon Foundation website on 30th
September 2004.
- The world-wide copyright of the prize-winning song, will remain with the
author, but the Arvon Foundation and the IDEASFACTORY shall
have the unrestricted right to publish it in whole or in part at the time of
the announcement of the winner, or at any time up to twelve months after the
announcement.
All competitors shall be deemed to have read and accepted all the conditions
of entry for the New Lyric Award.
