New CD Launch on Isle of Skye
New CD Launch on Isle of Skye
05 April 2004

Farquhar MacDonald will launch his new album on April 17 2004  with a mighty marquee gig in the village of Edinbane, North West Skye.

'The Ghost Shirt' is a collection of tunes consisting mainly of new compositions, composed by Farquhar plus a number of traditional pieces.

The resulting CD has been mixed and recorded by Iain Copeland at Phat Controllers studio, Ard Roag, Dunvegan, Isle of Skye.

Farquhar has brought together a collection of musicians huge on the scene - Iain Copeland, Peter Morrison, Seamus MacLellan, Andy Thorburn, Graham Findlay, Innes Hutton, Hector MacInnes.

The tracks range from chill out Celtic grooves to full on thumping reels.
The track 'The Ghost Shirt' features the tune written and played, by Farquhar for the ceremony where 'The Ghost Shirt' was returned from Glasgow across the Atlantic to the native North American Indians. The ' Perspex ball' from the new album has already featured on Celtic Connections (Radio Scotland).

"As I listened to 'the Ghost Shirt' on the sample Farquhar had given me, I felt almost there. As it came to an end I could hear the wind of the parries and feel sand in the air, it made the hairs on the back of my neck twitch. The other two tracks on the sampler; Ness Pipers and Flibertijibbet are a great mix; trancy, dancy and  traditional". (Rosie Somerville)

At the same time as recording, a new six-piece band was formed. The debut gig was at the  Edinbane Festival 2003, followed by the Lochalsh music festival 'Drams in the Field' who reckoned they were "A fiery bunch of sesh merchants". So far the coming album has attracted attention in Sweden where they will tour in mid June.

Farquhar MacDonald is a well-known Skye fiddler and piper. For many years he gigged regularly with Archie MacFarlane also well-known as box player. They regularly played at local ceilidhs', festivals and  events the length and breadth of the west coast. In 2000 They brought out an album together, "She's good on the croft". They had a hugely successful launch with 800 people turning up to support them, again in Edinbane. That event steam rollered that community into creating the equally successful Edinbane festival about to enter its 4th year.

This musician and local character is also much respected by many youngsters, aspiring fiddlers, in Edinbane where he gives lessons.
