Caim on tour with Thomas Loefke
13 April 2004

Celtic prayers, folksong and stories join with harp music from the Celtic Northwest in a special return tour of Perthshire and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland by Celtic singing duo “Caim” and Celtic harpist Thomas Loefke.

“Caim” are a Capella singing duo Jacynth Hamill from Northern Ireland and Heather Innes from Perthshire, Scotland.  Since forming the duo 5 years ago, Jacynth and Heather have toured with their music in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, bringing their pure Celtic harmonies to Celts worldwide.

Caim’s music centres on published prayers in the Celtic tradition written by David Adam who was until recently Vicar of Lindisfarne, Holy Island.  Caim have set David’s prayers to ancient Irish, Scottish and Welsh airs and have recorded 3 CDs of prayers.  Their fourth CD “The Land I call my Home”, of Irish and Scottish folksong received extensive airplay throughout Scotland on its release in 2001. Following this tour “Caim” and Thomas will record Caim’s fifth CD at Red Barn Studios, Longforgan.

“Caim” enjoy singing a Capella in their concerts but also look forward to their occasional tours with harpist Thomas Loefke. Thomas met Jacynth and Heather at a Folk Alliance Conference in Nashville, USA in February 2003 and the trio toured throughout the Highlands and Islands of Scotland last summer.

Loefke has been taught by some of Ireland’s leading harpists – Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Helen Davies, Janet Harbison and Áine NíDhúill.  He has toured across Europe, Canada and the USA and has received numerous international prizes, including first prize at the O’Carolan Harp Festival in 1987.

Much of Loefke’s time is spent composing music for harp, touring and recording.  As well as touring with Caim, he tours with Norland Wind, Riverdance fiddle player Máire Breatnach, piper Finbar Furey, flutist Ellen Czaya, keyboard player Matthias KieBling and with cello/guitar duo Acoustic Eidolon.

“People are listening to quiet haunting music again”, says Thomas.  “It’s amazing how the sound of the harp takes the speed out of everyday life and brings you back to a sort of tingling slowness.”

Caim’s pure singing style has been described in much the same way.  Celtic harp and voice together will again touch the hearts of many on this tour. Caim are presented by Clunie Music.
