Theatre Company with a nose for Touring

Theatre Company with a nose for Touring
16 April 2004

“Tell me why you’re staring at my nose.  Is something wrong with it?”.

Cyrano loves Roxanne.
Roxanne adores Christian.
Christian needs help.

Cyrano has it all.  He’s sensitive, strong, an unrivalled swordsman, a brilliant poet:  the ideal man . . . well almost.

Christian can hardly string a sentence together, but he’s handsome beyond words.

What unites these men?  The love of one woman:  Roxanne.

With Christian’s looks and Cyrano’s way with words, they conspire to make the perfect man and woo Roxanne.  But what has Roxanne really fallen for?  Christian’s looks or Cyrano’s mind?

Thursday 6 May marks the launch of a 17 stop tour of Catherine Wheel’s latest production Cyrano starting at the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh.  This radical new adaptation for three actors of the European classic Cyrano de Bergerac is a swashbuckling comedy about tragedy, love, loss and a nose. . . Cyrano is produced by award-winning Catherine Wheels Theatre Company in association with Brunton Theatre, adapted by Jo Roets and translated by Audrey Van Tuyckom. Cyrano will be touring from 6 May to 19 June 2004 (see below for Highlands tour schedule).

Catherine Wheels Theatre Company is a Producing theatre for children and young people. They were the winners of Barclays Theatre Awards Best show for Children & Young People for 2002 and has, for the first time, been granted core funding by the Scottish Arts Council

This new award will underpin an extensive programme of shows over the next 12 months:  6 productions, especially created for children, young people and their families will reach new audiences across Scotland, appearing at arts venues from East Lothian to Mull, from the Borders to the Shetlands.

The company’s award winning show Lifeboat (2002 winner - Barclays Theatre Award  Best Show for Children & Young People) has been invited to perform at 5 international festivals in Canada in May and June.

April 2005 will mark the launch of CWTC’s Artistic Associates Initiative:  a new professional development and training programme for CWTC collaborators and creators of new productions for children and young people.
