Chance for Artists to find Inspiration at Hospitalfield
Chance for Artists to find Inspiration at Hospitalfield
18 December 2003

The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW), one of the most dynamic art organisations in Scotland, is inviting artists to apply for their 2004 Residency for Visual Arts.

The three month residency at Hospitalfield House in Arbroath is a rare opportunity to work in the environment which has inspired many prominent Scottish artists including James Cowie, Henderson Blyth, Joan Eardley, Ian Fleming, Will Maclean and Peter Howson.

The successful artist will have an opportunity to explore their work within their own studio space with food and accommodation provided. The residency is open to any professional artist who is either Scottish, or who has studied in Scotland and who is permanently based in Scotland, or who is working in Scotland.

Hospitalfield House is situated in its own 30 acre estate overlooking the North Sea and has played a major role in developing the visual arts in Scotland over the past 20 years.  Previous residency recipients have been inspired by the beautiful and historic building as well as the dramatic grounds which surround it.

Philip Reeves, President of the RSW, said "We want to encourage artists in Scotland and give them a chance to focus on their work in a way which we hope will allow them to develop.”

Artists interested in receiving more information should contact the Secretary, RSW, 5 Oswald Street, Glasgow G1 4QR (tel: 0141-248 7411) or visit www.thersw.org.uk  The closing date for applications is 5 January 2004.
