Members of Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mor - the Lismore Historical Society - had good reason to celebrate during the festive season after their project, Lismore Heritage Cottage (Tigh Iseabal Dhaidh), won two Tourism awards.
The project was one of the original 38 heritage projects undertaken during Phase One of the Nadair Trust's programme. The awards were based on nominations from visitors and were sponsored by UKFX, specialists in foreign currency services, and the local Tourist Board. The Lismore Heritage Cottage was voted the Best Place to Visit and Overall Winner of the Tourism awards.
Tigh Iseabal Dhaidh opened in 2002 after being restored as a traditional 19th century croft house. Over 1,000 people visited the cottage in its first year. Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mor hope to collaborate with the Nadair Trust again this year to develop their plans for a new museum, cultural centre and restaurant on the land adjacent to the Heritage Cottage. The new premises would house the islands extensive genealogical and archive records currently housed in a rented property 2 miles from the cottage.
