Moray's First Arts Conference aims to 'Change Lives'

An exciting array of speakers has been lined up for Moray’s first ever Arts Conference, 'Changing Lives', on 15 May 2004 at the Glenfiddich Distillery.  In the last three years arts development in Moray has flourished and continues to grow. Presentations and demonstrations will give delegates the opportunity to gain an insight into successful  projects in Moray and other examples of good practice.

The conference has been organised by Moray Council and HI~Arts and will consider the positive impact that the arts can have in addressing wider issues in the community through high quality, innovative and creative projects.

Programme

  9.30 - Delegates arrive, registration, tea and coffee

10.00 - Welcome – Moray Council Convener Cllr Aldridge

10.10 - Keynote speaker – John Byrne
Acclaimed Artist and Playwright (The Slab Boys) John Byrne will draw on his own experience on the road from Paisley through Arts School to success.

11.00 - 1st Panel Session – Changing Moray
Arts Development in Moray over the last three years from a local and national perspective.

12.00 - 2nd Panel Session – Changing Youth. Using the arts to engage with young people

13.00 - Lunch – over lunch distillery tours will be organised in 4 groups at 10/15 minute intervals.  During the tour there will be a musician in the Malt Barn, artists work in the Gallery and a Youth Dance presentation.

Who should attend

The conference will be of particular interest to people directly involved in the arts and by those working or involved in other areas such as health, youth work, crime prevention and community services.

Booking

The size of the conference venue means places will be strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  Organisations wishing to send more than one delegate may not, depending on demand, get more than one delegate place.  There will be a nominal charge of £5.00 (payable on the day) to cover the cost of lunch (soup and sandwiches). Your place and travel details etc will be confirmed after the closing date.
