04 August 2004

Nairn-based artist, Shaun MacDonald, will be showcasing work at the the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts Kelly Gallery from 28 August–11 September 2004.

Shaun was the winner of last year's Exhibition Award at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts Annual Exhibition.

The exhibition at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts - Kelly Gallery will showcase a selection of new mixed media drawings and paintings that will illuminate the continuing evolution of his studio practise. This incorporates a variety of mediums, working methods and styles.

Shaun studied Drawing and Painting at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, after graduating in 1999 he moved to Edinburgh and immediately began showing work throughout the country. His first year out of college culminated in a solo exhibition of his work at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen.

Shaun spent the summer of 2000 painting in Toronto and upon his return entered the MA programme at Grays where he continued to show new work and in 2001 he won the Anne Redpath Award at the annual Visual Arts Scotland exhibition in the Royal Scottish Academy.

Since completing his studies he has lived and worked in his hometown of Nairn where he runs The Blue Door Artists Studios that are facilitated by WASPS (Workshop, Artists Studio Provision Scotland).

Over the last three years Shaun has been a valued part-time member of the lecturing staff on the UHI (University of Highlands & Islands) Fine Art Degree Course at Moray College in Elgin where he teaches on all levels of the course. Shaun is also a regular exhibitor at the Glasgow Art Fair and last year was invited to exhibit in London for the first time.
