Helping to put local businesses on the write track
Helping to put local businesses on the write track
23 September 2004

Inverness Chamber of Commerce and HI~Arts have joined forces to mark the Inverness Book Festival by putting on a special writing event, led by a specialist creative writer for business, Stuart Delves of Edinburgh-based consultancy Henzteeth.

According to Simon Cole-Hamilton, Chief Executive of Inverness Chamber, the idea behind the event was to help local businesses to beef up their written communications to make them livelier, more interesting, and ultimately more effective.  “These days it seems that we are surrounded by more and more written information, what with emails, websites, brochures, fliers, letters, instruction booklets, and so on.  Every day hundreds of organisations are competing for our attention using the written word, and that’s why it’s so important that businesses know how to make their information stand out from the rest.  This event will help them to do that.”

Henzteeth is a firm of creative writers for business, co-founded by Stuart Delves in the belief that good writing has the power to transform business communications. They work with businesses of all sizes and from a wide range of sectors to help them make the most of the written word.

HI~Arts see this event as a natural part of the Inverness Book Festival.  Peter Urpeth, Writing Development Co-ordinator, said, “The Festival is a great event for readers and writers alike.  This workshop will show that writing and reading are not just rewarding and creative activities for the individual, but that there are real benefits to businesses in harnessing the skills that good writers bring to the workplace.  It has been said that the ability to write well is the most neglected skill in business life, and Henzteeth are experts at overcoming that!”

The workshop, entitled “Writing to Pack a Punch”, takes place at the Netley Centre (Highland Hospice) on Friday 8 October.  Fuller details can be obtained from www.inverness-chamber.co.uk, or by contacting the Chamber office on 01463 718131 or info@inverness-chamber.co.uk
