Anita Clark has been appointed Head of Dance at the Scottish Arts Council, and will take responsibility for developing dance provision across Scotland.
Anita joins the organisation from citymoves dancespace in Aberdeen where, in 2001, she was appointed the first Artistic Director and helped to develop the organisation from a local community dance project into the regional dance agency for the North East of Scotland.
After initial dance training in Scotland, Anita went on to study at London College of Dance. Since graduating twelve years ago, she has developed a career in dance working for organisations throughout Scotland and the UK, including positions as Education Officer at Birmingham Royal Ballet, Dance Artist-in-Residence at North Ayrshire Council and Dance Co-ordinator at Glasgow City Council.
In her new position, Anita will take responsibility for developing and implementing dance policy in Scotland within the overall context of the Scottish Arts Council’s strategic aims and objectives.
Speaking of her new role, Anita says: ‘I am thrilled to be in post as Head of Dance and am looking forward to working with companies, organisations and professionals to support the continued development of dance across Scotland. Dance in Scotland is currently enjoying a fantastic period of growth with more people participating in dance at all levels and audiences for performances also increasing.
‘Within my new role, I hope to ensure that people of all ages and abilities continue to have the opportunity to participate in and experience dance, that those with talent are supported to realise their potential and that Scottish choreographers and organisations are supported in fulfilling their ambitions to produce world-class dance and tour across Scotland and internationally.’
