Secrets of the Forest: Untold Tales of Hallowe'en

Secrets of the Forest: Untold Tales of Hallowe'en
20 October 2004

A spectacular performance of live storytelling, theatre, masquerade, circus and music for all ages, set deep in the heart of a Scottish forest.

The forests of Scotland hold many secrets, forgotten wisdom that is now locked in leaf, stone and mountain stream. Storytellers still walk the earth whose words can coax the trees and hills into giving up their tales. As the Ancient Harvest Festival approaches these stories contain untold power. The night is alive with magic, the veil between the worlds grows dangerously thin, and anything can slip through…

In the heart of Tarlogie Forest, te POOKa invites all to rediscover some of the lost stories of Hallowe’en, from the days before it had that name. A strangely clad traveller welcomes you to his fire in celebration of the passing season, one last summer feast before wind and ice strip all warmth from the land. Lords and Ladies of the forest come alive in the surrounding trees, while graceful elves and cunning mischievous imps create other worlds from the storyteller’s words; a fleeting glimpse into a time of myth and transformation before the vision melts away.

“It was obvious at the event that all ages, but particularly the young and the young at heart, had a great time in the woods listening to stories and watching the actors breathing life into the stories.” David Barclay, Highland Access Project Manager.

te POOKa is an Edinburgh based arts company who specialise in highly visual, innovative outdoor performances incorporating theatre, modern circus and music, creating  stunning environments and magical landscapes.  In addition to touring major festivals, te POOKa take their shows to the North of Scotland to encourage people who don’t usually get the chance to experience the arts.
