Shetland Arts Trust’s latest music promotion looks set to provide a change of flavour and mood when virtuoso Spanish guitarist Eduardo Niebla and his accompanist Hugo Elizalde, who hail from the Catalonia region of Spain, perform in Lerwick on Wednesday the 24th November in Lerwick’s Methodist Church.

Niebla blends Flamenco guitar with gypsy jazz , Indian and world music influences to create an eclectic style that has taken him to major concert halls all over the world and Ronnie Scott’s famous jazz club in London, not to mention a highly acclaimed performance at the legendary Glastonbury Festival last year. Add to this the fact that Eduardo and Hugo have consistently been awarded the mantle of the best guitar duo on the European music circuit and it is clear we are in for a very special night indeed, a must for all fans of guitar music irrespective of personal tastes.

Shetland Arts Trust Music Development Officer Davie Gardner said “Given his formidable reputation, and the eclectic mix of guitar music he delivers, Eduardo’s Lerwick concert promises to be nothing short of an exciting and exceptional night of music”.

While in Shetland the duo will also perform five guitar workshops / concerts in local schools, stretching from Unst in the north to Sandwick in the south

Davie Gardner said, “The guitar is a very popular instrument here, and school concerts and workshops of this nature offer our budding young musicians a fresh insight into the instrument and an opportunity to hear it presented in a very different fashion.”

Tickets for the concert on the 24th November in the Methodist Church, Hillhead, Lerwick are available from High Level Music in Lerwick priced £8 and £5. Doors open at 7.30 with the concert at 8pm.

“Stunning flamenco-jazz guitar pyrotechnics…….Quite simply brilliant!!!” (The Sound)

“Niebla is king of Latin guitar music and a world class virtuoso” (Time Out Magazine)

“Astonishing interplay between the principals, who wed technical fluidity and virtuosity to unashamed passion” (Q Magazine)
