Saturday 20th November saw the debut concert by Inverness's newest band, "Highland Swing", as it performed at the Crown Church's Fellowship Group's Scottish/American Thanksgiving dinner.
Highland Swing was set up by swing music enthusiasts in the Highlands to give them an outlet for their playing, and to bring back the good old sound of Big Band dance music to the people of Inverness. Saturday's concert, where the band played such tunes as "Basin Street Blues", "Do Nothing 'Til You Hear From Me", "My Funny Valentine" and "American Patrol", proved to be a great success, and the audience were transported back to their courting days at the tea dances held in Inverness's Caledonian Hotel.
The band has approximately 20 members and has been in existance since June 2004. It meets every Tuesday evening at the Crown Primary School in Inverness and is open to new members who have an enthusiasm for swing music. Contact campbell@highlandswing.co.uk or phone 01381 600477.
