From Thurso High School to Lochside Theatre in Castle Douglas and from Lochcarron Village Hall to Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh, this year Essential Scottish Opera will visit 15 venues throughout Scotland, four of which are brand new to the tour.
Essential Scottish Opera is Scottish Opera at its most minimal and relaxed, and this year audiences can look forward to hearing a selection of operatic highlights. The music will be from well-known operas such as Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Puccini’s La bohème and Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers as well as from a selection of lesser-known operas including Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette and Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito.
This year’s cast are brand new to Essential Scottish Opera and includes Claire Wild (Soprano), Sandra Bundy (Mezzo-Soprano), Mark Chaundy (Tenor) and Christopher Dixon (Baritone).
Claire Wild made her Scottish Opera debut earlier this year in The Minotaur, and Christoper Dixon recently covered the role of Sacristan in Tosca for Scottish Opera and will perform the role of Roucher in Scottish Opera’s forthcoming concerts of Andrea Chénier. John Fulljames makes his debut as Director of this year’s ESO and Ian Shaw returns as pianist.
