L to R: Julie Fowlis and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh
Unique tour of Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaeilge music
15 February 2005

A unique tour showcasing songs from Gaelic Scotland & Ireland and music from both countries and beyond.

Two of the finest young exponents of Gaelic singing from Scotland and Ireland - Julie Fowlis from North Uist and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh from Co.Kerry - will team up with first class accompanists Eamon Doorley (bouzouki & fiddle) and Ross Martin (guitar).  The girls are also fine instrumentalists, both playing whistles, pipes and flute.  The strong cultural links between Scotland and Ireland will be showcased through these concerts which will include songs in Scottish Gaelic, Gaeilge (Irish) and English with tunes a plenty!

Both girls grew up with strong backgrounds in traditional music and the Gaelic language, both having grown up on Islands off the West coasts of Scotland and Ireland and now are at the forefront of the traditional music scene today.  Julie, who was nominated for Best Gaelic Singer at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2004, performs with popular Scottish band Dòchas (Winners of Best Newcomer at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2004), and Muireann fronts the internationally acclaimed band Danú (Folk Band of the Year & Best Original Song, BBC2 Folk Awards 2004).  Julie will be performing material from her debut solo album "mar a tha mo chridhe" or "as my heart is", on which Muireann, Eamon and Ross all appear.  The album also features John Doyle, John McCusker, Kris Drever, Ingrid Henderson, Allan Henderson, Martin O' Neill and Iain MacDonald, who also produced the album with Julie.

An accomplished fiddler, Eamon is a self taught bouzouki player and is especially talented in his accompaniment of songs.  His fine and sensitive playing is widely recognised and he is in much demand as a performer outside of his full time band, Danú.  Ross Martin is one of Scotland's most sought after guitarists, performing with the dynamic band Dàimh and Gaelic super group Cliar amongst others.
