Fèis Rois this week launch the 15th Fèis Rois Inbhich – Adult Fèis – a fabulous and unique national event. Based in Ullapool from 30th April to 2nd May, the Fèis offers very high quality tuition in a terrific range of classes : accordion, banjo, bouzouki, cello, fiddle, flute, Gaelic, Gaelic song, guitar, harmony singing, harp, mandolin, piano accompaniment, pipes, Scots song, step dance, song writing, tin whistle and group playing. These will all be led by a wonderful team of internationally renowned Scottish musicians, such as Allan & Iain MacDonald, Iain MacFarlane, Alison Kinnaird, Angus Grant, Bruce MacGregor, Rona Lightfoot, Andy Thorburn and Deirdre & Fred Morrison.
Bringing a very special flavour to this year’s event are three top flight Cape Breton tutors, Harvey Beaton, Dave MacIsaac and Glenn Graham who are all coming as guest tutors. This has grown out of the Memorandum of Understanding created between Highland Council and Nova Scotia Government. “We have been keeping in close touch since our visit on October 2003, and we are all just delighted to have pulled this off. These guys are all legends and I know that they will give the Fèis a really special Cape Breton feel and a great lift”, said Fèis Rois Manager Rita Hunter.
Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible to apply, and all ability levels are catered for. The event, famously described as “the best weekend of the year”, has attracted participants from many countries and has much to offer – classes, sessions, ceilidhs, stunning scenery and great fun.
