A new and innovative storytelling circle in Inverness is due to have its inaugural meeting on the 6th April at Hootananys, Church Street, Inverness from 8.00pm – 9.30pm with plenty of time to claik an’ clype and enjoy a drink or two.. It is expected to continue on the first Wednesday of each month with potential to extend to venues in other locations.
The “Claik An’ Clype Storytelling Circle” has been conceived by Lillian Ross and Greg Dawson Allen, both members of the Scottish Storytelling Centre at the Netherbow in Edinburgh. Lillian has extensive experience in ballad singing and storytelling and Greg in storytelling and as a writer. Both work in schools and in groups spanning all ages.
The aims of the Circle are simply to create a gathering of storytellers and listeners (with no obligation to participate) and share in the oral tradition of storytelling past and present. Tell a story, a street rhyme, a poem, a skipping song or even a joke. All these are part of the sharing and wonder of the story which has covered the world for thousands of years.
The Circle is eager to attract everyone who enjoy a good story. Ballad singers are also welcome although the emphasis is on accoustic and unplugged.
