An Lòchran, Glasgow’s Gaelic Arts Organisation, has drawn inspiration from the book Flower of the West, written & collated by Calum & Rory MacDonald, for two flagship Gaelic cultural events: The exhibition, which opens at Taigh Chearsabhagh, Isle of North Uist, on April 2nd and runs to 27th April, heralds a re-awakening of a Gaelic identity.
The Exhibition
Flower of the West is an exhibition by six visual artists - Kasia Zych, Hugh Watt, Olwen Shone, Lesley Punton, Shauna McMullan, Maria McCavana. All the artists commissioned are of Celtic origin or live in the Western Isles.
Using a range of media - photography, video drawing and painting – the exhibition explores Gaelic and Celtic Identity through the theme of landscape and sense of place. The artists look at territory and belonging, as well the less tangible - the relationship of time and space to landscape.
