The organising committee of SPEYFEST 2005, one of the North of Scotland’s biggest celtic music festivals has announced the headline acts for this year’s tenth anniversary event. This year’s festival, to be held at Fochabers in Moray between the 28th and 31st July, promises to be the best yet.
The programme will feature three of Scotland’s biggest and most enduring names with Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham opening the festival on Thursday and Wolfstone heading the bill on Saturday. Aly and Phil opened the very first SPEYFEST back in 1996 and we are delighted to have them return for what will be a very special event.
Headlining the concerts on Friday and Saturday will be Flook, one of the most exciting bands on the celtic music scene at the moment and maintaining SPEYFEST’s international flavour, Tillers Folly from Vancouver, Canada return after their hugely successful debut at last year’s festival.
Chairman of the organising committee Joe Duncan said “We thought long and hard about the best way to mark the festival’s tenth anniversary including changing the format for this year’s event. But at the end of the day it’s all about the music. We decided to bring back some of the artists that have contributed to the success of the last nine years to help us celebrate this milestone and turn this festival into, what will be, the biggest SPEYFEST yet. We are delighted that so many will be with us over the weekend.”
There is also a great line-up of emerging talent and some well known names supporting at the various events over the weekend including Mauvais Sort, from Quebec in Canada bringing a new sound to SPEYFEST and perhaps three of the most recognised names in Scottish music, Duncan Chisholm, Ivan Drever and Fiona Kennedy. We are particularly pleased that Colcannon (Australia) and the very busy Last Night’s Fun will be making an appearance at the Survivor’s Ceilidh on Sunday despite their hectic tour schedules.
The full programme and final line-up for the festival will be announced at the end of May and tickets will go on sale in the middle of June.
Further announcements on the line-up and programme and details of how to get tickets will be posted on the festival’s website at www.speyfest.com as they become available.
