Scottish Chamber Orchestra plays six concerts in June and July in the Highlands.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra travels north again this summer for its annual Highlands Tour. Under the baton of Austrian conductor Ralf Kircher, winner of the Chivas Baton Award presented to the most outstanding conductor at the renowned Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Orchestra begins the first date of the tour in Findhorn (Universal Hall, Thursday 9th June), before traveling to Fortrose (Black Isle Leisure Centre, Friday 10th June) and Kingussie (Badenoch Centre, Saturday 11th June). The programme includes the Overture from Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers and Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony.
The second part of the tour takes place in July, with concerts in Strathpeffer (Pavilion, Thursday 7th July), Thurso (High School, Friday 8th July) and Culloden (Academy Theatre, Saturday 9th July). These concerts are conducted by Roland Boer, who attracted rave reviews for his recent debut conducting English National Opera in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and newly appointed SCO Leader Christopher George takes the solo in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 3 in G.
As the summer draws to a close, the SCO Strings and SCO Wind & Brass tour separately. The Strings visits Teangue on the Isle of Skye (Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Thursday 22nd September), Drumnadrochit (Craigmonie Centre, Friday 23rd September) and Aboyne (Deeside Theatre, Saturday 24th September). SCO Wind & Brass heads for Inverness (Town House, 22nd September), Kincraig (Community Hall, 23rd September) and Stirling Castle (Great Hall, 24th September). Full programme details for these concerts will be announced in August.
