From 13 June 'The Greenness of Sea', an exhibition of paintings by Glasgow based artist Anne Devine, will be on tour on the Isle of Mull. The Gaelic naming of places inspired the title of the exhibition. It brings together a body of work created from Anne Devine's 2004 Artist in Residence post at An Tobar working on a project called the "Wee Islands". The purpose of the project was to allow an opportunity for islanders and visitors travelling by boat to engage with a practising artist. During a period of three weeks Anne Devine made boat trips to many of the islands that are situated around Mull. Working directly in the landscape, Anne made numerous drawings and paintings, which became a visual record of that time and the inspiration for the work on exhibition. The paintings describe Anne's experience of the landscape distilled through working from memory - only essential elements remain and an inner landscape is also evoked.
The exhibition will tour to the neighbouring Isle of Ulva and to the two island Agricultural shows on Mull.
