Young film makers, living in the North Highlands are now being offered that ‘Big Screen Break’. As part of the Youth Arts Festival in the Highlands, Arts in Motion are running a Filmmaking project.

The project includes training for young people in all aspects of film making, but particularly in the technique known as Blue Screen.

Blue screen is used in action movies like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Batman, to transport actors to any location, enable them to ride in spacecraft, be left stranded on a tower, or battle an army of Orks.

Now we’re offering the chance to make digital video films, limited only by your imagination. No more worries about transporting your cast to Hawaii, the centre of a volcano, or even the third galaxy. Without the expense and discomfort of actually getting there you can make your visions a reality.

Co-ordinator of the project Kay Smith said ‘Everyone dreams of making a film, this is a really exciting opportunity for young people which they should grab with both hands. I mean who knows where it may lead’

Arts in Motion are looking for people between the ages of 14 & 25 who are interested in all aspects of film making to take part in this exciting, new project. The project will offer introductory and basic workshops plus placements for more intensive film making training. So if you’ve ever fantasised about making movies now is your chance.

This project is designed to ‘kick start’ opportunities for young film makers in the North Highlands. The finale of the year of performance and film, will be a series of mock Oscar ceremonies, 'The Alberts'. These events will include all the trappings of the real Oscars and will involve live entertainment by young people.

So if you are between the ages of 14 & 25, have lots of ideas, creative energy and live in the North Highland Area (Ross-shire, Skye & Lochalsh, Sutherland, Caithness) get in touch.
