An Tobar celebrates Katie Morag's 21st birthday!
An Tobar celebrates Katie Morag's 21st birthday!
21 July 2005

Cakes, clowns and Katie Morag! An Tobar, the Tobermory Arts Centre is delighted to celebrate popular children’s character Katie Morag’s 21st birthday with an exhibition of original illustrations by the author Mairi Hedderwick.

Visit Katie Morag’s imaginary Hebridean Isle of Struay through Author Mairi Hedderwick’s delightful illustrations. The first of the Katie Morag books, Katie Morag Delivers the Mail, was published in February 1984. She is a feisty young lady, independent and stubborn – but in a lovable way, and is willing to offer her help to anyone who needs it. To her many young fans, Katie Morag continues to be an endearing heroine and has earned herself quite a cult following. Random House Children’s Books in association with the Scottish Book Trust have brought this touring exhibition to An Tobar.

The exhibition coincides with Mull Theatre showcasing the first-ever stage adaptation of Katie Morag in August. Katie Morag’s 21st celebrations on Mull start with an old-fashioned birthday party at 2pm on Monday 1st August to mark the opening of the An Tobar exhibition. Author and illustrator Mairi Hedderwick will read from the books and party guests are invited to delve into the dressing up box and come as a character from the Katie Morag series. Mull Theatre Company clown Fiona Collis will also entertain with her circus skills.

The free exhibition will run from 2 August until 3rd September 2005 and is open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sundays 1pm-4pm.

The exhibition is open to school visits from the start of the new term on Thursday 18th August. Please call to make a group booking.
