Burghead, Hopeman and Lossiemouth…
“A large-scale, outdoor, multi-media project for and by young people. Operatic in style and urban in attitude, using video art, electronic soundscapes, and breakdance…”
Moray Council’s Arts Development team recently secured a grant of £18,627.00 from the Scottish Arts Council for the above project.
‘Spinners’-HipHopera(A)96 is a community-based performance project targeting young people from Burghead, Hopeman and Lossiemouth. It is a multi-agency approach to tackling the ongoing issues affecting young people, concentrating on car- culture in rural Moray and the devastating effect this notorious ribbon of tarmac, the A96, too often has on young lives and their communities.
From August to October 2005 there will be workshops in a variety of expressive urban artforms already tried and tested in central Moray: film-making, video-art, music- programming, breakdance and drama. This will lead into a full production fortnight over the schools’ October holidays, as all aspects of ‘Spinners’-HipHopera(A)96 culminates in a weekend of 3 evening public performances in Roseisle forest for all to see and never to forget.
‘Spinners’-HipHopera(A)96 is a positive partnership between numerous agencies, namely Moray Council Arts Development, Local Community Network, Community Learning and Development, Grampian Fire and Rescue Services, Grampian Police and Forestry Commission.
