Dramatic scenery, mountains, lochs and changes in the weather and seasons have inspired the paintings of Jonathan Shearer which will be on show at the Castle Gallery, Inverness from 2-24 September 2005.
Shearer is a keen walker and climber and takes his paints, easel and sketchbooks with him on his travels. He uses his sketchbooks as a visual diary to capture the essence and atmosphere of these dramatic landscapes. Some of these numerous sketches will be on show during the exhibition together with other works painted on site and larger scale oil paintings completed in his studio.
The 16 page colour catalogue which accompanies this show gives and indication of the work, which ranges from Glencoe to Sutherland, Rannoch Moor to Wester Ross.
“For me, Jon’s strength is when he is describing a scene quickly. His sense of drama captures a moment, not with the cold eye of a camera lens but with an expressive gesture or brushstroke.” – Kevin Dagg, Lecturer in Fine Art, Edinburgh College of Art.
This exhibition is the Highlands foremost private art gallery, has been generously sponsored by Stronachs Solicitors.
