TAG Theatre Company’s A Taste of Honey, by Shelagh Delaney will open at Citizens Theatre, Glasgow on 4th October 2005 and then will tour venues across Scotland from 10th October – 12th November 2005.
TAG Theatre Company will be touring Scotland this autumn with a landmark play from the 1950s, written by one of the UK’s youngest dramatists at the time. A Taste of Honey written by an eighteen year old Shelagh Delaney is a mould-breaking play which epitomises the dramatic revolution of this era; bringing the lives of working class characters in their homes and places of work into theatres.
A Taste of Honey is a funny and moving story about a teenager called Jo. Set in late ‘50s Manchester, it follows her as she struggles against the odds to deal with responsibility, poverty, pregnancy and a neglectful mother in her pursuit of happiness her taste of honey.
TAG’s production will be the first to tour Scotland in over 10 years, so don’t miss this excellent opportunity to see A Taste of Honey.
Brought to life by the successful creative team who crafted TAG’s Knives in Hens, earlier this year; A Taste of Honey will visit 19 venues across the country this autumn. TAG is renowned for bringing high quality theatre to audiences in schools and venues across the country. This tour will reach audiences in an impressive 14 local authorities.
A Taste of Honey will entertain, move and challenge its audience. Often described as a kitchen sink drama, this is a highly accessible piece of theatre which deals with the hard-hitting realities of working class life and some startling content for its day, A Taste of Honey was remade as a film by Tony Richardson in 1961 and became famous as the multi-award winning film, in which Rita Tushingham made her unforgettable screen debut.
