Rapture, Scotland’s foremost contemporary touring theatre company is to tour the first ever-Scottish production of Damages by Steve Thompson.
Damages received its world premiere at the Bush Theatre in London only last year. Rapture’s production opens at Paisley Arts Centre on Friday, September 16th and closes at Palace Theatre Kilmarnock on Saturday, October 30th. Although the show is performing at many high profile venues, Damages will also visit many small Scottish community theatre venues during its run, including Eastfield, Moffat and Mull.
Combining the wit and one-liners of those favourite screwball comedies of the 1940’s such as “ His Girl Friday” and “The Front Page” with a modern perspective, this satirical laugh fest will give audiences one of their best nights out.
Three journalists desperate for the big headline have a scoop involving salacious shots of a Children’s TV presenter !! . However they haven’t counted on the sassy legal eagle, ex girlfriend, of one of the hacks, who has her own headlines to make. As the clock ticks against them, the pace heats up, the temperature rises and the race is on to print the red-hot sexy story or…. decide that just because it may interest the public… is it really in the public interest??
Rapture’s Founder and Artistic Director, Michael Emans, said: “I feel that this is yet another scoop for Rapture – it’s fantastic entertainment for Scottish audiences, and we look forward to welcoming many members of local communities to our production.”
"Our last show “Blue/Orange” was so popular with audiences and theatres that over 800 additional people joined our mailing list and theatres are now already booking us for Spring 2006 and beyond”.
The company is popular with actors too with performers turning down offers from bigger more lucrative companies to work with Rapture. Emans beamed “We’re very proud of our ability to attract top class actors who respect the passion and integrity and honesty of our work”.
The cast for Damages features rising star Ewan Donald as “Bas”. Ewan recently wowed audiences with his acclaimed performance as “The Graduate” in Dundee Rep’s show based on the iconic movie. Alongside Ewan is George Drennan as “Lister”. George has appeared with cutting edge companies such as Wildcat, Sounds of Progress and Stellar Quines as well as popular stints as the Tron Theatre’s panto villain. A treasure of the Scottish stage Peter Kelly completes the male line up. Peter is a classical actor who has tackled roles as diverse as Shakespeare at the RSC to playing the love interest to Siobhan Redmond in “Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” to playing the murderer in “Taggart”. Peter will play “Howard”
Playing the pivotal female role of Abigail is Shonagh Price. Shonagh has mixed an enviable reputation as a stage actress in dramas such as “Tally’s Blood” and comedies such as “The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband” with much loved performances on the small screen, including a six-year stint on “High Road”.
Michael Emans strongly believes in ‘theatre for all’ – ensuring that even very small communities in Scotland have the opportunity to access quality theatre productions.
