New Theatre Show from Right Lines Productions
New Theatre Show from Right Lines Productions
19 October 2005

Watching Bluebottles by  Euan Martin and Dave Smith is all about Life, Death and Village Halls, will be on tour from 12th - 26th November 2005.

"Heaters, lights, keys... is that me done now?"
The old hallkeeper recites his daily mantra as he prepares for one last bash -
his own retirement party.
After years of service behind the scenes, the hallkeeper
turns the tables and takes us beyond the mundane chair-stacking and sweeping up
to reveal a world of passion, pathos and life-changing experiences!

Watching Bluebottles is a one-man show based on the life of a village hall-keeper. This new work will evoke the rich diversity of the village hall, situated at the heart of the community and it centres on the personal story of a particular hall custodian on the eve of his retirement. The piece will be relevant to audiences who regularly attend various functions in their own local halls and although not an audience-interactive piece, the hall itself will be an integral part of the performance, conjuring up the illusion of a local story told locally.

Watching Bluebottles is the latest collaboration between Highland-based writers Euan Martin and Dave Smith, who were responsible for the hugely popular “Who Bares Wins” (2004) and the award-winning comedy ceilidh murder mystery show “The Accidental Death of an Accordionist” (2001). Ron Emslie, who received such rich praise for his outstanding performance in “Who Bares Wins”, returns to work with the company in the role of the Hall-keeper.

The new show is a departure from previous productions where interactive comedy and quick-change farce were strong features. Watching Bluebottles aims to capture all emotions and explore universal themes and it will be especially pertinent to those with an affinity to Scotland’s rural communities.

Watching Bluebottles is very accessible and suitable for age 10+. The show will play without an interval, running time approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

Right Lines gratefully acknowledge financial support from Awards For All, Highlands and Islands Producers Fund, NEAT, Scottish Arts Council, Moray Council and MBSE.
