Power and energy are the themes of Scottish Opera's Education Department's forthcoming Primary Schools' Tour - The Big Bang Show! The tour, which will visit around 100 primary schools from Glasgow to Tiree, will explore everything from conventional, nuclear and renewable energy to where it comes from, how we create it and how we use it.
The Primary Schools' Tour has been one of Scottish Opera's most successful education projects for over thirty years with the last tour, FEVER! involving over 11,000 children.
Jane Davidson, Head of Education for Scottish Opera, said: 'Over the years, we have commissioned several new operas to take out to primary schools throughout Scotland and have been given the opportunity to work with some extremely talented people. The Big Bang Show! is another brand new commission, composed by Marion Christie with lyrics by Ross Stenhouse.
'We also have the pleasure of working with a really energetic and gifted team made up of music and drama animateurs who work with the selected school in the course of one day to rehearse and then perform a 30 minute opera for their friends and family.
'The Big Bang Show! promises to be informative and exciting while dealing with the very relevant issues of energy production and consumption.'
