Lessons will start with a warm up focusing on joints, stretching muscles and tendons using the bar and a few elements from classical ballet.

Participants will explore the art of Mime studying:

The “Grammar”: decomposition and reorganisation of different parts of the body using various movements: inclination, rotation, translational motion in different directions and with different rhythms.
Movement in the space: ways of walking changing rhythms, turning, exploring different intentions. Specific walks including the famous “walk on the spot”.

Counter weight and illusion:

A) To lift up and transport something heavy (illusion)
B) To push & pull: sawing, ironing, hammering…etc.
C) To throw: a stone, a piece of material, a rope.

Improvisation: starting from a theme, students will improvise without words. Improvisations, after a moment of reflection, are performed impromptu with no interruption by the teacher.

Each lesson will be divided into two parts:
First Part: open to all students (from Beginners to Advanced)
Second Part: for experienced only (please see below)

The teacher will recommend the suitable length of the lesson according to CV and/or individual needs.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Born in Paris, she attended the School for Dramatic Arts E.P.J.D. (Education Pour le Jeu Dramatique).
In 1949 she joined the group of Etienne Decroux – the world famous mime and actor, master of Barrault e Marceau, described by Gordon Craig as “The man who rediscovered the Mime” – working in numerous of his shows in France and in other countries.

Since 1953, at first as Decroux’s assistant, lately on her own, she has been teaching Mime at the “Piccolo Teatro of Milan” Acting School and at the “National Academy of Dramatic Art” in Rome. Recently she has also been working for “Le Theatre du Soleil” directed by Ariane Mnouchkine and for other European theatres.

As movement choreographer she has been working with prestigious theatre directors, putting on stage many masterpieces by Brecht, Shakespeare, Pirandello, Goethe, Aeschylus and Euripides.

For the Opera she has designed the movements for Falstaff (Verdi), Woyzeck (Berg); Don Giovanni and Così Fan Tutte (Mozart) at the prestigious theatre “Alla Scala” in Milan; also for The Magic Flute (Mozart) at Salisburg.

Marise Flach has taught the art of Mime and Body Expression to hundreds of performers and theatre directors across the world; she can be considered one of the greatest teachers in her field.
