National Theatre of Scotland - Theatrical Opportunities for Young People
19 December 2005

The National Theatre of Scotland, one of the most exciting and important initiatives in European theatre for many years, has just launched its inaugural programme, under the Artistic Directorship of Vicky Featherstone. NTS exists to take quality theatre to as many people as possible in Scotland and to forge international opportunities to create work, tour work and set up exchange.

NTS aims to support a culture of creative learning throughout Scotland. The setting up of NTS Young Company is one of many projects, led by Associate Director, Simon Sharkey, placing outreach and learning at the forefront of the National Theatre of Scotland’s activity for 2006.

The NTS are looking to recruit four actors, a producer and director, aged 18 – 26 to form the inaugural NTS Young Company, who will be mentored by senior members of the NTS team.

Over a period of one year The NTS Young Company will deliver a programme of new work, workshops and co-productions with local youth/community groups as well as participating in an intense development and training programme.

This is possibly the most exhilarating, exciting and innovative opportunity for us to invest in the future of Scottish Theatre. The creation of the NTS Young Company offers tremendous potential for young theatre makers to make their mark in Scotland and have work created locally reach globally” Simon Sharkey – Associate Director
