The Local Motion project has now entered its fifth and final phase, covering the six Culloden Academy feeder Primary schools, plus Central and Merkinch Primaries. All primary schools in the Inverness Area have now benefited from this 3-year Out of School Hour Activities programme funded by the Big Lottery and managed by The Highland Council. The project will soon reach the ten thousand attendance target.
This term, in agreement with the head-teachers and the Active Schools Co-ordinators, the project has targeted the P1- 4 age groups and at present, there are 175 participants. The schools have requested that the Local Motion Team offer sessions to a new wave of participants from April to the end of June. The end result will be that more children will have the opportunity to experience the project’s activities.
This term the coaches will cover Gymnastics, Basketball, Creative Movement, Parachute Games, Funfit, Martial Arts, Circus Skills and Drumming. There is always a mixture of sports and physical arts. As previously, a colouring competition will be held with prizes to maintain interest and certificates will be distributed at the end of term sessions.
Local Motion concludes in August, with much of the momentum to be taken up by the Active Schools Coordinators, in conjunction with local volunteers.
