A new opportunity for Creative individuals with enterprising ambitions
A new opportunity for Creative individuals with enterprising ambitions
13 March 2006

A new postgraduate course uniquely tailored to the needs of creative individuals aiming for success in the creative industries will start at St Andrews University in Scotland in September 2006. The Masters in Creativity Management is designed to empower creative individuals, whether artists, performers, designers, writers or directors, to manage their career while continuing to develop their own creative work. The course combines creative practice with management knowledge and skills and the opportunity to develop both in a creative venture.

The Masters in Creativity Management has been developed by a new, world-class consortium, the Institute for Capitalising on Creativity, which brings together top creative and management expertise from: Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee; the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama; the University of Abertay, Dundee; and the School of Management, University of St Andrews. An international dimension is provided by a partnership with the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

The course will be taught by creative practitioners and management experts with specialist knowledge of the creative industries. Input from key players in the creative industries and opportunities for practical hands-on experience will ensure students gain direct knowledge of the realities of the field.

The first year of the two-year programme will be based at St Andrews but will also involve on-site creative work at the partner campuses. Students will also benefit from a month’s placement at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York, opening up exciting global networks and perspectives. Students will spend their second year on placement, starting up a company or back in their own work environment.

This course is designed for those who want to be part of the elite in their creative field and who also aim to succeed commercially and work internationally. Applicants are sought who can demonstrate excellence in their own creative area, and who also possess the drive and enthusiasm to succeed in business, leadership and management.
