Exciting opportunity for Scotland’s Creative Producers
Exciting opportunity for Scotland’s Creative Producers
24 April 2006

The Scottish Arts Council is piloting a new scheme offering two creative producers bursaries to develop their skills and experience under the guidance of an experienced creative producer.

The scheme will be facilitated by leading creative producer and theatre director Andrew McKinnon, Andrew will work with the selected individuals to determine a professional development programme appropriate to the skills and needs of each individual. Commenting on his role Andrew said:

‘I am delighted to have been asked to facilitate this bursary scheme. It presents an exciting opportunity for me to work with talented mid-career producers and it will give them a significant opportunity to develop their work.’

The scheme will help two talented individuals to progress their careers. For example, this could be through additional training, networking or arranging UK or International placements. I think it’s a very welcome initiative.’

The role of the Creative Producer has emerged as a dynamic force in the creation and production of innovative performance practice but is an area which is there is currently little professional support. The role of the creative producer is to stimulate new work, bringing together artists to work in collaboration and managing the process. Experienced creative producers, with vision and a deep understanding of performance can play a crucial role in the development of high quality performance work.

Creative Producer Bursaries is a joint scheme between the Drama and Dance departments of the Scottish Arts Council and is open to applicants with experience in any aspect of performance – drama, theatre, street arts or live art. Scottish Arts Council Head of Dance Anita Clark comments:

‘Creative Producers play a crucial role in ensuring excellence in production and presentation of new work in the performing arts. We hope the bursaries will play a role in nurturing this knowledge and expertise in Scotland while drawing from other ways of working in other countries. We welcome applications from talented producers working in this field but who are keen to progress their career through such an opportunity. ‘

The deadline for applications is Friday 12 May 2006. More information can be found on the Scottish Arts Council’s website at www.scottisharts.org.uk . Or by contacting Malene Ropars, Dance Department , Malene.ropars@scottisharts.org.uk
