Hit Gaelic comedy show Comadaidh Óir (the Comedy Unit & MNE for BBC Alba) is back and needs you to decide who to crown!
Award-winning indies The Comedy Unit (Still Game, Chewin’ the Fat, The Karen Dunbar Show) and MnE Television are once more joining forces on Comadaih Óir (Comedy Gold).
It all kicks off on Wednesday 12th July 2006 when the Comadidh Óir bus will roll up at the Corran Halls in Oban. It’s a comedy series that contains more than a hint of reality, so audience participation is a must! All performances are FREE and Comadaidh Óir needs the public to decide who will be crowned King or Queen of Comadaidh Óir! Full tour dates and ticket information can be found at the end of this release.
Under the watchful eyes of TV and radio personalities Cathy MacDonald and Morag MacDonald, five new writers, ably supported by a troop of actors, will take up the challenge of producing original comedy sketches. The writing muse will be able to take inspiration from some fantastic locations as the Comadaidh Óir bus travels to Oban, Inverness, Benbecula, Stornoway, Skye and Glasgow.
Those taking part will be hoping to emulate the success of Gilleasbuig Ferguson, last years King of Comadaidh Óir who is again involved with the series. Producers were so impressed by Gilleasbuig that he’s lined up as assistant script editor this time round.
This year’s five writers are Catriona Lexy Campbell from Plockton, Murdo Macsween from the Isle of Lewis,
Janet Evans from Glasgow, originally from Northern Ireland, Iain Mackenzie from Isle of Lewis and Cailean Collier from South Uist.
This year’s troop of actors are Carina MacLeod from Lewis, Alec MacDonald from Skye, Calum MacAulay from North Uist and Alex MacDonald from Skye.
Comadiadh Óir is funded by the Gaelic Media Service
