Ardross Hall is set to welcome of one of Scotland’s most acclaimed musicians and composers, Savourna Stevenson, for a concert with a very exotic musical flavour on 25 Augsut 2006.
Described as a “National treasure” by The Herald, Savourna is a virtuoso Clarsach player and composer whose work encompasess traditional, jazz, world and contemporary classical music, and whose previous collaborators include Dave Swarbrick, Aly Bain and Eddi Reader.
At Ardross, Savourna will be teaming up with master Iranian percussionists The Chemiranis, acclaimed Gaelic singer Alyth McCormack and double bassist Paul Spiers.
Their concert will feature an intoxicating mix of Celtic and Middle Eastern music and poetry.
Savourna first met Djamchid and Bijan Chemirani when recording for Radio 3 All Night Live. A spontaneous session with the Iranian percussionists sparked off a collaborative friendship inspiring the idea of blending Middle Eastern music and poetry with the Celtic Tradition and Gaelic language. The Chemiranis played on Savourna’s latest album Persian Knight Celtic Dawn and its sell-out premier live performance of at this year’s Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow.
