Elaine C Smith and Andy Gray star in TWO
18 August 2006

TWO with Elaine C Smith and Andy Gray kicks off in Perth on Friday 8 September 2006 for a two week run before touring theatres across Scotland.

TWO is one of the many plays by Jim Cartwright, who also wrote the award-winning The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which was adapted into film in 1998 and starred actress Jane Horrocks.

The play has been transformed, with the help of two of Scotland’s finest comedy actors, from being a quirky look at English pub life to one resembling more of the lives and loves found in your local Scottish boozer.

Elaine and Andy will take on the central roles of the pub’s warring landlord and landlady as well as play the other 12 colourful characters which pepper the script.

Apart from the leading landlord and landlady, the other characters mostly make up the pub’s clientele – a host of eccentric personalities each with their own story to tell. There’s a gold-chained Casanova called Moth with nutty girlfriend Maud in tow, Smelly Jimmy, a troubled old man, a lost Elvis fan to name but a few. The characters take the audience through a whole gamut of emotions from misery to side-splitting laughter.

Amongst the many other characters, Elaine will swing from playing the sharp-witted landlady who doesn’t suffer fools gladly to an old lady in a headscarf who enjoys time away from her husband to fantasize about the butcher.

Andy plays the pub landlord battling the temptation of alcohol as well as portraying all of the male clientele including a troubled old man and an eight year-old schoolboy.

Both landlord and landlady move seamlessly from talking directly to the audience to engaging with their array of pub “regulars” offering up advice alongside a dram or two. However, it’s only a matter of time before the cracks in their strained relationship becomes apparent when a boy looking for his dad forces the bickering couple to unveil a heartbreaking secret.

Don’t miss Andy and Elaine’s first performance on stage together since the smash hit The Woman who Cooked her Husband in 2004 which preceded Gray’s fabulous performance in the highly successful Scottish tour of the West End hit Stones in His Pockets.

Jim Cartwright’s TWO has triumphed in theatres throughout the world and this is your chance to see this one first in Perth.

TWO is at Perth Theatre from Thursday 7 – Saturday 23 September (Thu preview). Performances begin at 7.45pm and 2.30pm (Sat matinees). Tickets £16 - £9.50 + concessions. To book call 0845 612 6319 or log onto www.horsecross.co.uk
