Cara Dillon has been described in the press as "...young, Irish, gorgeous...and blessed with a voice of unearthly beauty".
Fresh from a sell out tour of the United States with "A Woman's Heart", performing along side Irish Musical Divas such as Mary Black, Sharon Shannon and Maura O'Connell, Cara Dillon will be coming to the Pitlochry Festival Theatre in Perthshire on Thursday 26th Oct 2006 to perform a very special concert as part of "Perthshire Amber - The Dougie MacLean Weekend". This will be one of only two Scottish dates during her current UK tour, a rare opportunity to experience the purity and compelling quality of Dillon's stunningly beautiful voice on Scottish soil.
Cara's self titled debut solo album was released to great critical acclaim in 2001 and was described by Time Out Magazine as "...a quietly assured masterpiece". This was followed up in 2003 by her equally successful album "Sweet Liberty" which gave her and her husband producer Sam Lakeman (brother to Seth Lakeman) the chance to showcase
their song writing talents. This year saw the release of her latest album "After The Morning", from which the first single "Never In A Million Years" has received heavy airplay across the FM stations, and has been play listed for BBC Radio 2. Amongst the many other stunning tracks on the album, is her version of Scottish Songwriter Dougie MacLean's "Garden Valley".
In just a few short years as a solo performer and recording artist, Cara's career has gone from strength to strength and her popularity seems to keep on growing. She was awarded the Radio 2 Folk Award "Horizon/Best Newcomer" in 2002 as well as "Best Traditional Song" for her version of the Irish classic "Black is the Colour". In 2004 she won
the Irish Meteor Music Award for "Best Irish Female Singer", snatching the title from other notable nominees including Sinead O'Connor and Enya. 2004 also saw her named in the Irish Tatler Magazine as "Women of the Year" (in music). She has proved to be very popular with the Big Buzz Magazine scooping their "Best Traditional Act" accolade in 2002,
2003 and 2005.
"Cara seems to have seduced the entire Nation, make that several Nations, for among the rare ingredients of her irresistible natural personality and mesmerising ability to relate a great story in song, is an all-embracing quality that defies borders, cultures and even languages". This talent has taken her and her band all over the world, from Australia and New Zealand to Japan and South East Asia, Israel, Europe and the United States...and now to the stage of the Pitlochry Festival Theatre!
