Star - Studded Concert for Dingwall
Star - Studded Concert for Dingwall
25 September 2006

Top-class Scottish traditional music performers will be teaming up with promising young Highland musicians on Saturday 30th September in Dingwall Town Hall for a unique and very special celebratory concert.

Created by Fèis Rois and sponsored by the Faculty of Advocates and Highland 2007, Ceòlraidh gives teenage Fèis Rois participants a once in a lifetime opportunity to take to the stage alongside their chosen professional musician in front of an audience of 400 people, celebrating the 21st anniversary of Fèis Rois.

The impressive Ceòlraidh line-up includes Capercaillie maestro Donald Shaw, Blazin Fiddles’ Aidan O’Rourke, Gaelic singing sensation Julie Fowlis, world-renowned piper Duncan MacGillivray, Gordon Gunn of Session A9, Highland mandolin player Dagger Gordon, top fiddler Iain Fraser and Dòchas accordionist Carol-Anne Mackay. The one band selected for the night is the very popular and energetic Back of the Moon who have recently returned from a USA tour.

Many of the young musicians already have several accolades to their name. Scottish Junior and Senior women accordion champion Roya Maclean of Muir of Ord will take to the stage with Donald Shaw, Matheu Watson, a recent finalist for Radio 2’s ‘Young Musician of the Year’ award will join champion Kiltearn Fiddler Emma Donald to play with magnificent fiddler Gordon Gunn. Alexander Levack of Easter Kinkell, ‘Young Piper of the Year’ in this year’s Benbecula competitions, will open the concert with his piping muse Duncan MacGillivray. As well as nine of these exciting musical pairings, the audience will be treated to a large scale finale created and directed by Donald Shaw. Anyone who attended the Celtic Connections Harvest concerts in 2004 or 2006 will testify to Donald’s terrific ability to inspire all young players to take flight and aspire to new heights. Looking forward to the big night, Donald today said that “live performances for me are still the most exciting part of being a musician. I love the spontaneity that it creates and playing alongside a young enthusiastic musician will only add to the creativity. In light of the great musicians who are now playing traditional music, it is a real honour to be asked to play. I’m very excited.”
All the young musicians involved have amazing talent and potential and this concert is one not to be missed for Scottish music enthusiasts.
