For the twelfth year running Arthur Brocklebank will be delivering his popular series of eight talks entitled Tuesday Afternoon Music, in Castle Street Church Hall, Dingwall. The talks are held fortnightly on Tuesdays, naturally, and the first of this new series will be on 24th October at 2.30 pm.
The music featured this time will be Shostakovich's comic early years operetta. Cheryomushki, which could easily be mistaken for Lehar, Johann Strauss II, or even Gilbert and Sullivan; a survey of music from Italy ranging from the 16th to the 20th century; "King Arthur" the dramatic opera by Purcell (featuring Scottish tenor Jamie MacDougall); Richard Strauss's tone poem Ein Heldenleben - with its eight French Horns being very much in evidence; the compete "Peer Gynt" music with narration; Elgar's First Symphony: and a hearing of some outstanding Concerto and Chamber music recordings.
The aim is to have music playing for 90% of the time with just 10% allowed for the talk.
Each talk will cost you just £2 with all proceeds going to charity. You will be very welcome to come to them all or just the ones you choose. |
