Scottish Youth Theatre's coming to the Highlands
Scottish Youth Theatre's coming to the Highlands
11 October 2006

Celebrating their new building, 30 years of continued success and now 10 years of being on the road, the Scottish Youth Theatre is proving to be a strong cog in the wheel!

Now that Scottish Youth Theatre's hectic, but extremely successful, Summer Festival has come to an end, it's now time to hit the roads with our annual Roadshow. Offering a variety of FREE workshops to young people throughout Scotland, Scottish Youth Theatre aims to surpass last year's record breaking figure of 4500 young people and 110 locations.

Each workshop offers schools, youth theatres and community groups the chance to receive a 90 minute taster workshop, ideal for providing an introduction to drama and the arts, throughout the months of September and October.

So, what can you expect from this annual event? The Roadshow, which can cater to up to 40 young people, is an ideal opportunity to encourage interest in youth theatre in the local area, the work created by Scottish Youth Theatre but also to introduce to those eligible (12 -21 year olds) to the Summer Festival and everything it has to offer.

The Roadshow will be stopping off in the Highlands week commencing 30 October.

The event itself lasts approximately 90 minutes and each workshop is highly practical providing participants with an insight into the methods used by Scottish Youth Theatre on the summer courses. You can choose from a fun Introduction to Drama workshop or an Advanced Improvisation Skills workshop. A typical Roadshow event includes a general drama workshop with warm up activities, icebreakers, games and improvisation exercises.

The Roadshow also includes a short presentation & discussion about Summer Festival 2007. Participants get the opportunity to ask questions about the suitability of Summer Festival courses, how to apply & what to expect.

Associate director Karen McGrady said; "The Roadshow is an ideal way for us to provide exciting workshops to young people throughout Scotland. They not only provide an introduction to theatre and drama, but also help to increase confidence and self-esteem in each young participant. As this is the 10th anniversary of the Roadshow, I am certain that it will be one to remember for both participants and staff."

To be considered as a host for the Roadshow or for further information on the event or other workshops/projects offered by Scottish Youth Theatre, please contact either Claire Stewart or Jenny Gaffney on 0141 552 3988

The tour itself will hit the road on Monday 2nd October and travel across Scotland until Friday 10th November 2006, and may very well be coming to a school or youth group near you.
