Local film finalist to produce short fiction about the Brahan Seer
Local film finalist to produce short fiction about the Brahan Seer
18 October 2006

The legend of Coinneach Odhar, dun-coloured Kenneth, otherwise known as the ‘Brahan Seer’ – has captured the hearts and imaginations of Highlanders since the 16th century. Entertaining tales of his mysterious and far-reaching predictions, of his eventful life and his cruel and untimely death have passed down from one generation to the next. Rachael Mill prepares to tell his story, through the modern medium of film, to a contemporary Highland audience.

Helping Rachael make her big screen debut is professional film-maker Don Coutts, the Cromarty-based director of the award-winning Scottish comedy “American Cousins”. With a script penned by local writer Bryan Beattie, the drama of ‘The Seer’ is set in two time periods, 16th century and present day, with the drama being delivered in both Gaelic and English.

Rachael says ‘our film aims to triumph the importance of a moment in time with a loved one over the power to predict the future whilst revealing how the Brahan Seer’s predictions are evident in the present Highland landscape’.

The film is one of six selected by Eden Court Theatre’s Digital Eden Project to go into production and be screened at the Inverness Film Festival on Saturday 11 November at 4.30pm at the Screen Machine. Funded by the Scottish Highlands and Islands Film Commission and Scottish Screen, the project is intended to give individuals and groups from the Inverness area the opportunity to train in the various developmental stages of film-making with help from a professional mentor.

You are invited to come and along and watch the film being shot from 12.00 – 16.00 on Sunday 22 October at Chanonry Point in Fortrose.
