Is traditional craft at the heart of your business? Enter Country Living Magazine's The Balvenie Artisan Awards 2007 for the chance to win up to £6,000 plus a range of the award-winning Balvenie single-malt Scotch whiskies.

Celebrating traditional crafts and skills

Country Living Magazine and The Balvenie distillery have joined forces to reward the individuals and businesses helping to keep traditional crafts alive in the UK today. Entry is open to anyone who uses age-old techniques to earn their living. Whether your business is based on weaving or textile design, glass-blowing or ceramic, working with wood, leather or metal, coopering, thatching, stonemasonry or any other recognised craft, they would like to hear from you.

The categories and prizes

The awards will recognise the top entrants in three categories, plus an overall winner: Country Living Magazine's The Balvenie Artisan of the Year 2007. All will be featured in Country Living Magazine.

Outstanding Support of a Traditional Craft or Skill
Open to businesses that are passing on a traditional skill to others, through formal or informal apprenticeshiops. Entry must include information on both the business and trainee, and the benefit that each is gaining.
Prize - £2,000 plus a selection of single-malt whiskies from The Balvenie and a specially commissioned trophy.

Best Use of a Traditional Craft or Skill
For businesses that are more than two years old and have a traditional craft or skill at the heart of the company.
Prize - £1,000 plus a selection of single-malt whiskies from The Balvenie and a specially commissioned trophy.

Best Start-Up Business based on a Traditional Craft or Skill
Open to businesses less than two years old on the closing date for awards entries (8 February 2007).
Prize - £1,000 plus a selection of single-malt whiskies from The Balvenie and a specially commissioned trophy.

Country Living Magazine's The Balvenie Artisan of the Year 2007
The top accolade. This will be awarded to the most outstanding entry overall (from any of the three awards categories).
Prize - £4,000 plus a bottle of The Balvenie Thirty single malt - a sought-after vintage whisky worth £250 a bottle - and a specially commissioned trophy.

In addition, up to two Highly Commended entries will be selected from each category, and will receive a bottle of The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old whisky and a certificate.

The judging

Initially, a shortlist will be compiled. These applicants may be contacted to obtain further information prior to the winners being selected. The judges will look for individuals or businesses committed to the advancement of traditional crafts and skills, and which reflect them by providing services or products of the highest quality.
