Battlefield Band fiddler releases first solo album
Battlefield Band fiddler releases first solo album
04 December 2006

Alasdair White, Battlefield Band’s virtuoso fiddle player, has released his first solo album An Clàr Geal.

In these past four or five years, his musicianship and tune making have had a great influence on the band’s repertoire and continuing success. Highly regarded and talked about since his early teens, he is still only 23 years old, and Battlefield Band have helped to introduce him to the winder audience that his music richly deserves. Here he has gathered together some friends and a lot of fine music, old and new, for his first solo album An Clàr Geal, released via Temple Records.

Alasdair comes originally from the Isle of Lewis, in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, where Gaelic language and music remain important influences on the culture, indeed on the culture of Scotland in general. For those fiddle enthusiasts among you, Alasdair plays in what might be called a ‘North-West’ Scottish style, heavily derived from the piping tradition. He is also a fine whistle player and plays the bouzouki and mandolin, and can take a tune out of the Highland pipes.

'A startlingly mature musician with a splendidly earthy fiddle tone.' Rob Adams, Glasgow Herald

For those of you that just love good music, Alasdair’s playing and tune making offer a privileged panorama of the exciting traditional music of Scotland today.
