Writers, artists and others interested in learning more about natural life on the Isle of Luing and the west coast of Argyll and responding creatively to it are invited to come to the Natural Life on Luing Weekend from Friday 4 to Monday 7 May 2007 which is being organised by the Scottish Centre for Geopoetics.
There will be talks, discussion and guided walks on the bird life, flora and fauna of this Inner Hebridean slate island and plenty of time to explore, write, paint, sculpt and photograph in response to its rich biodiversity (see www.isleofluing.co.uk). The Isle of Luing Community Trust will also outline its work to create interpretation panels and build a Heritage Centre, which plans to include a resource and research base for the Scottish Centre for Geopoetics. Poems, prose, photographs and other artwork inspired by the Weekend’s activities will feature in a booklet to be published by Alba Editions later this year.
Visitors will stay in self-catering cottages in and around the conservation village of Cullipool, which has spectacular views over the Firth of Lorn, and the cost of £20 per night includes a buffet and ceilidh on the evening of Saturday 5 May and all other events. The amount of accommodation available is limited and is likely to be in great demand so to secure your place send ASAP a deposit for £20 (cheques made out to Scottish Centre for Geopoetics) to Norman Bissell, SCFG director, currently at Mo Dhachaidh, 51 Cullipool, Isle of Luing, Argyll PA34 4UB.
