He’s back. Following last year’s sell-out tour of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, Boothby Graffoe takes to the road again with a brand new show, starting on 16th February 2007 at the Sunart Centre, Strontian. The self –confessed couch potato wil be trekking under the show title of “Getting up off the sofa”, and his first move is to Strontian in the western Highlands. He continues sans sofa throughout the highways and byways of Scotland, finally sitting down again on the 8th March when he plays the opening night of the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festivbal at the city’s Stand Comedy Club.
Graffoe's surreal, sharp, often improvised humour, combined with his unique line in original comic songs, is winning him a legion of fans around the world. Nowhere more so than in Scotland.
Boothby Graffoe presents audiences with his usual limitless imagination and effortlessly funny array of happy songs, one sad song, silly stories and far reaching flights of fancy from this master of the absurd. It’s simply a great night out – packed full of humour and pathos. It will leave your sides sore and your mind racing.
Thoughtful and incisive, Graffoe has the knack of putting his finger on the absurdities of everyday existence, and the comic imagination to bring them to life with hilarious effect. A superb comedian, he is also a supremely talented musician, and parts of the show are charged with emotion as haunting melodies enhance the impact of the spoken word.
There’ll be political satire with Boothby pointing out the obvious foibles of our leaders in a way you’ve never seen before. There’ll be virtuoso musical performances such as describing the musical character of twenty countries in under four minutes. There’ll be wonderfully surreal characters including ‘bungee girl’ and ‘umbrella head boy’. And most of all there’ll be some downright silliness
It’s been an incredible year for Graffoe, performing to sell-out crowds at the Edinburgh Festival, writing more new plays for Radio 4, and traveling across the world with his unique line in musical comedy.
A master of his craft Boothby has received numerous awards including Time Out Critics Choice Award and the Adelaide Fringe Festival Award for Excellence.
