Launched in September 2006 mapdance is University of Chichester’s exciting new MA Student Performance Company. Touring nationally and internationally from Feb to June 2007 the company has commissioned new works from leading British choreographers Bettina Strickler (ex Protein Dance), Kerry Nichols (k/n/d/c), Pete Shenton (New Art Club) and Erica Stanton. Ranging from athletic and intricate movement driven work to the theatrically acute, mapdance’s programme for 2007 offers a diverse and refreshing evening of dance shorts.
Directed by Jerwood Award Winner Yael Flexer (Bedlam Dance Company) and in line with University of Chichester’s reputation for dance and new technology research mapdance adopts a broad approach to dance making and performance.
Mapdance is offering an Open Workshop to all those aged 14 and over on Thursday 24 May In Culduthel Hall, Green Drive, Inverness from 8 to 10pm. Cost £6; £3 (students, unemployed) Bookings 01463 724261 and on line at www.thebooth.co.uk and www.eden-court.co.uk and by booking form.
The Workshop will begin with a thorough warm up followed by an exploratory repertory workshop. Students will have the opportunity to gain a much greater insight into the work of one of the choreographers whilst developing technical, expressive and performance skills.
